Labrinth

The story I heard from the internet, (so you know it is true)was that this guy used to produce for some european hip hop artists. Simon Cowell told him to go do his own thing, and this is what happened.

Good, clean fun.

Took the Summer

About a week ago, the wonderful Benzi dropped "GET RIGHT RADIO : SUMMER 2010 EDITION (HOSTED BY LMFAO)” .

Rarely am I entertained with "mainstream" music for this amount of time. He crammed 50 tracks into this 74 minute mix, and they're all bangers. One, though, stands out every time I listen. While you listen for the first time, right in the middle of it all, your ears perk up as he brings in a new track:

"One. Two. Four. Three. None of these bitches look better than me.
Hate. Hate. Hate hate hate. I don't care what bitches say, I don't even look their way.
Every time I walk in the club, they hatin' on me 'cause they know I look good.
My hair done right, and my dress so tight. All eyes on me. I took the night."

These familiar lyrics, mostly from Chelley's "Took The Night" are being voiced by an unfamiliar female singer. You try to place it, give up, scan through the tracklisting, and there it is:

With no fanfare, hype, or excitement leading up to the event, with the public being totally blindsided, Telephoned covered "Took The Night," and Benzi exclusively drops 1.5 minutes of it in the center of the Summer 2010 mix. Ridiculous.

I can't find anyone on the internets talking about this specific track. No sign of it on hypem, and an hour on google has yeilded nothing. Hopefully there will be a full track released somewhere soon, (or if it has been released already, hopefully I find it soon) but for now, I'll share the 1min 28sec from Benzi's mix that I've had on repeat for far too long while writing this.

Never really followed up this one huh? The track ended up on Telephoned's Keep Their Heads Ringin Mixtape. Go download it from The Fader right now!

California Girls

Oh hi. Sorry for the month and a half absence.

Everyone has heard California Girls 470 times too many. Every time there is a remix I can't help but think, "Holy fuck. ANOTHER ONE?"

Somehow though, I am still finding tracks I like. No one can deny how goddamn tasty this groove is. When talented DJs and producers add their personal touch to a song with this kind of hype, good things are guaranteed.

Some of my favorites:

Be My Main Squeeze

Fuck bangers. This summer weather just makes me want to throw some Shwayze on and kick back barefoot by the pool.

Lately my garage looks like this a lot. ^^^^

It really makes it hard to spend time on music, but I do not want to give up on this blog! Hopefully these goddamned Chevrolets will soon behave and I can start updating a few times a week, with actual purpose/direction to my posts.

A-Trak recently dropped Dirty South Dance 2. Preview the mixtape below, download the zip file, then follow my lead as I "roll down all my windows and crank that shit some more."

Speaking of A-Trak, if you somehow missed his remix of Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, hurry up and educate yourself:

Ummm... Armand Van Helden remixed Uffie's new one.

Reboot

I've run across a few people lately that have not been totally disgusted when they hear the music I listen to. This disproves my theory that everyone in Grand Rapids has horrible taste, and gives me hope that we are not doomed to die a a fiery pit of Top 40. Armed with this newfound hope that my generation is not entirely useless, I want to reanimate this old blog and focus it on the artists, producers, djs, and groups that make my head nod and my ass move. Hopefully yours will vibrate a bit also.

The decision of how to start this new theme out properly was surprisingly easy. In the vast sea of music I've come across in the past few years, one name has consistently stood out above the rest.

Vodka & Milk have been churning out tracks that give me goosebumps since I discovered them last year. Dramatic builds. Epic drops. Eerie yet upbeat hooks and replay value like nothing I've ever experienced. Despite their name, this group's unique style paired with their tendency to gravitate toward hip hop vocals that I would have dismissed as uninspiring results in one of the smoothest concoctions ever to grace your bleeding eardrums.

Follow them on Twitter, like them on Facebook, and dream about them when you go to sleep at night. They're about to change your life, and they'll keep doing so as long as they are producing tracks.

I'll shut up now and let their music bring you to climax:
